Fatih Karamancı, Board Chairman of Karamancı Holding and member of Abdullah Gül University Support Foundation (AGUV), and Prof. Kerem Alkin, Faculty Member at the Department of Business and Management Sciences at Istanbul Medipol University, were the new guests at AGU Talks series organized by the Abdullah Gül University (AGU) Youth Factory.
Rector Prof. İhsan Sabuncuoğlu made the opening speech of the talk held at the Rectorate Conference Hall on the Sumer Campus. He reminded that the purpose of the talk series was bringing together leading figures in business, sports, culture, art and education and students.
Later, in his speech Fatih Karamancı, Board Chairman of Karamancı Holding, which owns Orta Anadolu A.Ş, Superlit Boru and Karel Elektrik, talked about the past, present and future of Blue Jean and the history of industrialization in Anatolia.
Karamancı said that Blue Jean had the capacity of producing 7.5 billion-meter fabric while the need of the world was 5.5 billion. Highlighting that 75% of Blue Jean fabric was produced in China and the Far East, Karamancı said only 25% was produced in Europe and the USA.
Karamacı added that Turkey's production capacity was 650 million meter, which was a significant number, and also said that 10% of that capacity was produced by Orta Anadolu A.Ş. in Kayseri.
Following Karamancı, Prof. Kerem Alkin, Faculty Member at the Department of Business and Management Sciences at Istanbul Medipol University, informed students about global economy.
As an advice for students Alkin said: "As a generation coming behind, you need to be the generation protecting the manufacturing industry with high added value for the future of Turkey. The new generation must protect manufacturing, agriculture and construction sectors."
Besides students and academics, many invitees from business and industry attended the talks. In the end, Karamacı and Alkin answered the questions. The talks were aired live on Youtube.
