The Sustainability Panel organized at Abdullah Gül University (AGU) shed light on sustainability concepts in Kayseri business, city and industry with speaker experiences.
As part of the GLB301 Sustainability course, the panel hosted Koray Kök, Environmental Engineer at the Environmental Services of the Kayseri Municipality, Mustafa Nebi Doğan, Board Member of the Kayseri Chamber of Industry, and Ömer Yasin Arık, President of the Kayseri Chamber of City Planners, as speakers at the Rectorate Conference Hall.
Moderated by Assoc. Prof. Asım Mustafa Ayten of the AGU Architecture, the discussions covered sustainability concepts in Kayseri business, city and industry.
The speakers shared their experiences and answered questions of students from various departments.
Mustafa Nebi Doğan, Board Member of the Kayseri Chamber of Industry, said that despite the 300 km distance to the nearest harbor, Kayseri was a pioneer in furniture industry.
In terms of white goods and furniture manufacturing, Kayseri was the second and third, respectively, in Turkey, Doğan commented and added: "We are not at a bad place as Turkey, Kayseri and economically, but we are not at a good place either."
Koray Kök, Environmental Engineer at the Environmental Services of the Kayseri Municipality, mentioned a new country-wide trend of sustainability and the importance of planning according to this trend above everything else. Kök stressed that planning had to be done properly in the first place.
Ömer Yasin Arık, President of the Kayseri Chamber of City Planners, stated that sustainability entered the Turkish scene at the end of 80s and one of the hot topics in that regard was cultural sustainability in Turkey.
Arık stressed that all cities began to look like each other due to their development plans. The panel was concluded with a question and answer session.
