Abdullah Gül University (AGU) Rector Prof. İhsan Sabuncuoğlu mentioned the significance of the Life Sciences, Molecular Biology and Genetics for the medicine and said: "We need more research in this area for happier and healthier tomorrows."
Organized by the AGU School of Life and Natural Sciences, the "Life Sciences Symposium" was held in the Rectorate Conference Hall on the Sümer Campus.
Around 300 people working in biology, genetics, medicine, pharmacy, bioengineering, chemistry and engineering and based in various universities joined the congress held for the 4th time this year.
The congress aimed to bring students and specialists from basic, clinical and engineering sciences together to create an interactive environment and covered significant themes such as cancer biology, proteomics, bioinformatics, tissue engineering, stem cells, nanobiotechnology, neuroscience, immunology and biomedical instrumentation.
Rector Prof. İhsan Sabuncuoğlu delivered the opening speech of the congress and stressed the importance of the fields of life sciences, molecular biology and genetics for human health and a happy and healthy future especially in the current age.
Rector Prof. Sabuncuoğlu said: "Molecular Biology and Genetics made significant and great contributions to the medicine. We need more research in this area for happier and healthier tomorrows."
Prof. Yusuf Baran, who was assigned as the Rector of İzmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH) after his positions as a founding dean and Vice Rector at AGU, also delivered a speech and talked about technological developments in the world history, importance of knowledge, advancements in the Life Sciences, Molecular Biology and Genetics.
IZTECH Rector Prof. Baran continued his speech with a presentation entitled "Science and Society from the Past into the Future." Rector Baran informed about advancements in robotics, wireless power transfer, health screening with mobile applications, stem cells in the presentation.
Prof. Alaattin Şen, Dean of the Life and Natural Sciences, thanked everyone who participated and supported the IV Life Sciences Congress and expressed his wish for maximum information exchange in the congress.
Dr. Emel Başak Gencer Akçok, Head of the Molecular Biology and Genetics, shared some information about the congress and said, it would contribute greatly to students' visions and research of scientists specializing in a variety of basic sciences including but not limited to Molecular Biology and Genetics, Biology, Bioengineering, Medicine, Pharmaceutics, Dentistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Bioinformatics, Nanotechnology.
The congress hosted many presentations and speeches for two days.
