The city is served by Erkilet International Airport (ASR), which is just 4 km from the centre. There are some twenty flights per day to Istanbul, Turkey's premier air transportation hub.
From Kayseri's central location, there are good connections by car and bus to other parts of the country. It takes approximately 4 to reach Ankara, 3 hours to get to the Mediterranean, and 45 minutes to Cappadocia. The symbol of the city, Mount Erciyes, which is a notable ski center in winter and a trekker's paradise in summer, is only a 30 minutes' drive from the city.
Transportation within the city relies mainly on buses, and personal vehicles. A light rail transit system called Kayseray was opened in 2009: new lines for this system are currently under construction.
